One of the wonders of the universe is the picture for these Christmas holidays by Hubble Space Telescope : here is the Spiral Planetary Nebula, NGC 5189 (Gum 47, ID 4272).

We know a little bit things about it : discovered in 1826, the symmetrical nebula NGC 5189 is located in the southern small constellation of Musca. At the beginning seen as bright emission, Henize has seen and verified that NGC 5189 is a quasi-planetary nebula. His structure in the picture looks like a giant and bright blue-oranged ribbon.

A few years ago, NASA has estimated it to be 1 780 light-years away from Earth. It has a neighbor, the Hourglass nebula (MyCn18) located at 8,000 years away for Earth and which looks like a hourglass (see MyCn18's picture by HST).

And now, the question is : for Christmas, will we find a nebula which looks like a Christmas ball, a tree, a snowman ? No idea, but space still reserves us many surprises ......

"See far is see in the past" ... and when we look far away, we are able to trace the origins of the universe. It's what NASA astronomers have done by observing, thanks to Hubble Space Telescope, some of the first galaxies formed a little more than 13 billion years ago.

"It was a very ambitious observation campaign, we were able to go back to 13.3 billion years ago, a few million years after the big bang. At that time, the universe was only 3% of its current age", said Richard Ellis astrophysicist at Caltech, Pasadena

These observations have been possible, thanks to the team of Richard Ellis, by pushing Hubble to its limits. During six weeks in August and September, they have allowed to discover seven new galaxies which, according to NASA, were born between 400 and 600 millions years after the Big Bang. The oldest, named UDFj-39546284, is 13.3 billion years old, and was formed "only" 390 million years after the Big Bang.

Today, it is estimated that the universe is 13.7 billion years old. And in 2018, the successor of Hubble, the Infrared Space Telescope "James Webb Space Telescope / JWST", will be able to see even further....

We have just waited 2 days to finally watch it today : M83 has released with The Creator Project his new jewel, which is the last part of the trilogy of the kids with superpowers : "Wait".

The recipe ? Plans worthy of cinema, between static and wide shots and close-ups pronounced on the faces of the kids and futuristic effects.

"Wait", surely the most beautiful M83 video

A video like this one, you'll never find ... a beautiful and mysterious girl across the world (in city, in a snowy mountain and a forest where she is perched with wolves), a prism which travels the universe and which has got inside the young boy with blue eyes ... all this in a song sweeter than "Midnight City" and "Reunion" ...

A great video, probably the most beautiful video of M83 and of the year 2012 !
"Wait" is spreading quickly on the web, and the opinions are positive :

"The brilliant stroke of December is for them." (Allinelectro.com)

"Lately, the clips tend to be narrative short films, and the original song has not sometimes more direct relationship with history. Itself, the clip became an entity, sometimes even a full movie. It even happens that its story is so epic that follows a sequel, and in the case of the latest videos of M83, a trilogy. This is precisely what the team directors Fleur & Manu have done for the 3 songs the most theatrical of M83, telling the story of a group of telekinesic kids escaped from an asylum with "Midnight City", and battling the authorities in "Reunion"." (The Creator Project)

Snapshots and "Wait" single cover

"Wait" is probably the next single of M83, and for M83 fans, you can see and download the "Wait" single cover especially made for the song :

Here are also some snapshots of the video ; you can see the 34 snapshots taken posted on Facebook here and you can download them in great resolution here by SkyDrive (1600x680).

NASA announced Monday, 3 December that the U.S. probe Voyager 1 is currently in the final area before it leaves the solar system. It will become the first vehicle to travel interstellar space.

The probe has traveled many kilometers : 35 years after leaving Earth (in 1977), Voyager 1 is currently, based on board instrumentation, about 18.5 billion kilometers from the Sun, or three times the average distance Sun-Pluto ! For us, as humans, we won't be able to do such a distance. The probe is currently in "Kuiper's cliff" (2nd part of the Kuiper Belt), and probably at the junction between outer space and our solar system.

This area, where Voyager 1 is walking, is like a magnetic highway where the high energy particles from interstellar space enter the solar system. "Although Voyager 1 is still inside the solar environment, we can now see what looks like the outside because the particles enter and leave this magnetic road", said Edward Stone, project manager the at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena.

"If we judge only from the data on the charged particles, I would have thought we were outside the heliosphere. But we need to watch what us tell all the instruments, and only time will tell us if our interpretations about this frontier are correct", said Stamatios Krimigis, working in the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

The exploration of the solar system the most fruitful ever launched

Thanks to Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 (which has left the Earth one month after Voyager 1), we know our solar system better. The two probes flew by Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and 48 of their moons. The two spacecrafts have in particular revealed a large number of details about the rings of Saturn and discovered those of Jupiter.

They also delivered the first detailed images of the rings of Uranus and Neptune. The two Voyager have also allowed the discovery of 33 new moons and revealed the volcanic activity of Io, well as strange structure in Europa, two moons of Jupiter.
